Ukraine’s 81st Airmobile Brigade strikes on Russian positions by using M777 155mm howitzer and reportedly wipeout the Russian artillery unit.
Yesterday command of Assault troops of Ukraine posted a video showing the aftermath of M777 howitzer strike on a Russian artillery position equipped with at least six 2S1 Gvozdika howitzers. By looking at the video entire artillery was completely destroyed by the Ukrainian offensive attack.
Artillerymen of the 81st Brigade of the DShV and the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflicted a devastating defeat and destroyed the 2C3 battery “Acacia” of the Russian occupiers. In one of the areas of hostilities, units 81 separate airmobile brigade DShV and the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine using 155-mm howitzers M777 destroyed the enemy battery of self-propelled howitzers 2C3 “Acacia” said by Ukraine armed forces in Facebook page

Ukraine armed forces say these are 2S3 Akatsiya but they look like 2S1 Gvozdika Soviet self-propelled howitzer. The 2S1 Gvozdika is a Soviet self-propelled howitzer based on the MT-LBu multi-purpose chassis, mounting a 122 mm 2A18 howitzer. “2S1” is its GRAU designation. An alternative Russian designation is SAU-122 but in the Russian Army it is commonly known as Gvozdika.
Its strange how Russia lost an entire unit so easily. It should be easy for Russian to find and destroyed M777 howitzer because M777 cant moves independently like Russian 2S1 OR 2S3 self-propelled howitzer. Self-propelled howitzers have an edge over towed artillery because it can change its position after every single fire so the enemy won’t gets its actual location.
However somehow Russians failed in their task and Ukraine successfully destroyed an entire artillery battery. By looking at the video you can clearly see six 2S1/2S3 howitzer completely destroyed or abandon by Russian soldiers also the nearest area completely destroyed by Ukrainian shelling.
In modern battery organization, the military unit typically has six to eight howitzers or six to nine rocket launchers and 100 to 200 personnel and is the equivalent of a company in terms of organisation level.
