Unofficially dubbed the “Black Widow Spider,” Thailand is putting the armored people mover through its paces. The Thailand Defense Technology Institute created this armored 8×8 wheeled vehicle from the ground up. Thai defense officials have stated that the new Black Widow Spider is technologically on par with other similarly advanced combat vehicles now available in terms of mobility, protection, and firepower.

The prototype’s chassis features eight wheels all the way around, with the driver and power pack up front and the troop compartment in the back. In addition to the commander, driver, and gunner, 12 men can ride in this vehicle. It measures 8 meters in length, 2.7 meters in width, and 2.2 meters in height and weighs around 24 tonnes.
The Black Widow Spider, the report claims, can withstand mine explosions of up to 10 kilograms of TNT under its wheels and body, as well as small weapons fire of up to 14.5 millimeters in caliber. This is all in accordance with STANAG 4569, Protection Level 4.
The vehicle will have a top speed of 100 km/h and a maximum cruise range of 600 km. Two propellers attached at the back of the hull let it go through the water at a top speed of 8 kilometers per hour, making it amphibious.
The photographs show that the new Thai APC will be armed with a remotely controlled 12.7 mm machine gun. Demonstrations of the Black Widow Spider prototype were given at an expo in 2015, complete with a remotely controlled turret with a 20 mm or 25 mm cannon and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun positioned to the left of the main armament.
The Black Widow Spider has a number of proposed modifications, including a command vehicle, armored ambulance, recovery vehicle, and 120 mm mortar transport.
