Aiming to give a boost to the defense sector, India’s and Asia’s ‘biggest’ defense and aerospace exhibition, DefExpo 2022, opens in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Tuesday.
This is the 12th edition of the event organized around the theme of “Road to Pride”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold an opening ceremony on October 19, according to the Ministry of Defense.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said at the opening press conference held in Gandhinagar on Monday that DefExpo 2022 will showcase the growing capabilities of the home defense industry and will ‘Make in India, Make for the world’. “The biennial exhibition supports, showcases and builds partnerships between the Indian aerospace and defense industry and its Indian and global customers, with the overall aim of serving domestic needs while meeting the needs of friendly nations was organized to achieve,” Singh said.

He said in a modest tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Defense Secretary called DefExpo 2022 dedicated to Indian companies “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” and described it as “a pillar of the Swadeshi movement.” “DefExpo 2022 during ‘Amrit Karl’ reflects India’s determination to become one of the leading nations in the defense and aerospace sector over the next 25 years.

DefExpo 2022 will be the first edition dedicated to Indian companies. Indian companies, Indian subsidiaries of foreign OEMs, Indian registered units of companies and exhibitors with joint ventures with Indian companies are invited to participate in DefExpo 2022. It also marks the first anniversary of the seven new defense companies that emerged from the former Ordnance Factory board of directors.
All of these companies will participate in DefExpo for the first time. At the Bandhan ceremony on October 20th, 451 partnerships are expected in the form of letters of intent, technology transfer agreements and product launches, almost double the previous edition. The India Pavilion – a Ministry of Defense branded pavilion – presents India’s vision for 2047 while showcasing the country’s defense products, start-ups and the maturity of the latest technologies, including defense artificial intelligence.
