Even after 40 years, why is the F-16 still the backbone of US Air force?

F-16 is indeed an excellent fighter jet with cheap price, good performance, beautiful appearance, long life, and easy to maintain.

Later F-16 models feature a long dorsal fairing along the fuselage’s “spine”, housing additional equipment or fuel.

In terms of flight control, the f-16 adopts a fly-by-wire flight control system to facilitate the adjustment of the flight attitude in various aspects.
