Russia’s most advanced T-90M tank has appeared in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine for the first time since Russia declare war against Ukraine.
Russian modern heavy tank T-90M “Breakthrough” was first seen in the performance of assigned combat missions in a special operation in Ukraine. In the video footage published by the National Guard, you can see at least one such combat vehicle, which is strikingly different from all the other tanks involved in the war.
On the presented video frames you can see the T-90M “Proryv” tank. To date, this is the first evidence of the use of such tanks on the territory of Ukraine. According to the information available, the video was captured in the Kharkiv region. Moreover, apparently, this combat vehicle recently disabled the enemy’s armored vehicles.

Russian heavy tanks T-90M “Proryv” are strikingly different from other tanks used in the ongoing war. This is primarily due to the fact that the first combat vehicles of this type appeared in service with the Russian army only in 2020. In addition, the combat characteristics of these heavy tanks are such that they are not afraid of the capabilities of modern anti-tank systems, and a combat vehicle can easily survive in a battle with several opponents at once.
Before the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, there were images showing Russia sending some of the most advanced T-90M tanks to the front lines, but it still mysteriously disappeared during the two months of fighting.
But surprisingly, recently the image of the main battle tank T-90M Proryv-3 has appeared on the battlefield near Kharkiv, the vehicle is camouflaged with a specialized Nakidka cloth.
This fabric has the effect of reducing the infrared signal as well as the radar reflection of the tank, making it more difficult to hit by precision-guided weapons. The launch of the T-90M into the battle shows that Russia has used its strongest aces.
Although the appearance of the T-90M on the battlefield is expected by Moscow to help its army gain a superior advantage, but according to the assessment of Ukraine, the aerial vehicle is really scary.
The Defense Express newspaper believes that the serial modernization of the T-72, from which the T-90M Proryv-3 was born, is nothing more than an attempt by the Russian military-industrial complex to hide the complete defeat of Russian tanks by enemy, with the project to build the T-14 Armata tank.
The Ukrainian press said that despite the enhanced protection as well as the integration of opto-electronic weapons and advanced fire control systems, the “Breakthrough” T-90M tank still retains all the shortcomings of the classic T-72.
Among them, the most serious is the engine failure that often overheats in high temperature conditions, leading to the rapid disabling of the vehicle, which is especially serious when fighting in tropical climates.
According to Ukrainian experts, one of the main mistakes of Russian engineers is that today they use a really outdated engine design for their new generation tanks.
On the old foundation, the Russian designers put a more powerful turbine in the outdated “body”, which led to a lack of synchronization and exacerbated the previous mistake.
The above problem not only interferes with the control of the tank, but also greatly reduces its use on the battlefield.
The main battle tank T-90M Proryv-3 in terms of fire power density is still evaluated behind all major competitors in the world and cannot escape the inherent disadvantages of Soviet tanks.
Despite the “Breakthrough” T-90M received some elements inherent in the “unfinished” T-14 Armata. An example is the Kalina fire control system “in a slightly weaker version”, but this weapon is still considered inferior to Western products.
The Ukrainian media also suggested that this was even a mistake of the designer, because in their opinion the popular tank T-14 Armata was simply a complete failure of the manufacturers. Russian tanks.
And for the purpose of “fire fighting”, the Russians simply put out an upgraded version of the T-90M Proryv-3 to hide the failure of the project that had spent too much money but had no real results.
Finally, Ukraine asserted that Russia’s most advanced tank, if it really participated in the war instead of “just filming and taking pictures for advertising”, would soon be destroyed or become their spoils.
