Top 5 best armored vehicles of the Russian army

These vehicles can climb 90 degrees and are capable of floating on water even when carrying heavily armed personnel on the vehicle.

Tiger

This vehicle is built to serve patrol and reconnaissance, as well as fire support for infantrymen. The Tiger can carry up to 10 fully equipped soldiers at a time, as well as carry cargo over terrain where conventional cars cannot travel.

Although specially built for military use, there are also some Tiger vehicles that have been modified for civilian use. Simply put, gun-free versions of the cars could be custom-built for the rich who wanted military-style vehicles in their garages.

There are up to 20 variants of Tiger car. This vehicle can “swim” through trenches 1 meter deep, reaching speeds of up to 140 km / h with 700 kg of armor on the vehicle. There are even Tiger variants capable of withstanding a blast.

Currently, the Tiger car is in the process of being modified. The goal was to create a fundamentally new structure based on the existing chassis, which has proven effective during the Russian military campaign in Syria.

Vityaz-2 – a truck with a “secret”

The Russian military also has the vehicle ‘Vityaz-2’, a truck with an armored module hidden under a canvas cover (or a truck with a secret as the Russians call it).

The special feature of Vityaz-2 is its “cheating” appearance. From the outside, the Vityaz-2 looks like a standard Ural-4320, but inside there is an armored compartment capable of carrying up to 16 soldiers. This compartment can withstand most rounds of conventional assault rifles – 5.45×39 mm and 7.62×39 mm – directly from close range.

The driver’s cabin is even more protected, capable of protecting the driver against the fire of a 7.62×54 mm sniper rifle.

Both modules (driver and soldier) have small slots to shoot enemies.

In addition, Vityaz-2 can withstand a blast or an improvised explosive device with about 2 kg of TNT. This medium is developed based on the Ural series. The engine of the armored vehicle Vityaz-2 has a capacity of 285 horsepower and a 9-speed gearbox, helping the car have a maximum speed of up to 90 km / h. Vehicle can operate up to 1,000 km with 1 tank of gas.

“Monster” Typhoon

This vehicle is built to transport troops through all types of terrain in all weather conditions, from -50 to +40 degrees Celsius. Besides transporting soldiers (the vehicle can carry up to 10 soldiers) , Typhoon can be used to carry self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery, unmanned aerial vehicle launchers and other equipment…

All Typhoon class vehicles are based on the Kamaz chassis. Thanks to that, the 15-ton Typhoon can move on snow and sand dunes, as well as overcome obstacles on the water.

The Typhoon has the most advanced armor on the market, withstanding 14.5 mm armor-piercing bullets. Due to these characteristics, the Typhoon can become a mobile outpost, protecting units along the way.

Thanks to the cameras placed around the vehicle, the soldiers inside can observe everything going on around them without going out.

The Typhoon is available in 2, 3 or 4 axis versions for paratrooper units, as well as for infantry units.

Vodnik

In Russian, ‘Vodnik’ (or GAZ-3937) means “capable of swimming in water” and can overcome obstacles underwater thanks to its specially designed body frame.

This model is a special improvement of the famous BTR-80 light armored vehicle in the Russian army. Vodniks are essentially multi-purpose machines that combine all-terrain and maneuverable vehicles.

Vodnik can travel 1,000km with 1 tank of fuel and is used in the military to transport troops, goods and equipment …

Vystrel armored vehicle

This is also a vehicle based on the Kamaz chassis, but is mainly built for commanding officers, as well as medical personnel operating in the field.

Vystrel has the same armor as the Typhoon, can withstand 14.5 mm armor-piercing bullets and is able to survive being run over mines in a war zone.

However, there are not too many of these vehicles in the Russian army. Currently, there are about 100 Vystrel-class vehicles on the payroll of the Ministry of Defense.

Vystrel can overcome obstacles like the T-80 tank. This vehicle has been tested in mountainous areas, as well as on plateaus up to 4.5 km high. They work very well in conditions of temperature from -45 to 50 degrees Celsius. They also withstand high humidity up to 98% and wind speeds up to 30m/s.

It should also be said that durability and reliability have been the main focus of all Soviet/Russian military production since World War II. War has set new standards for weapons and machine manufacturers as new age military equipment must prove capable of operating in the harshest conditions.
