Ukraine agree to sell advanced S-300 radar to US

The US Department of Defense will receive advanced radars for modern air defense systems from Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side has reached an agreement with Washington on the sale of radar stations for modern air defense systems to the US Department of Defense for the purpose of their subsequent study by the American side. The greatest threat poses to the S-300 air defense system, which cannot but cause concern.

“The Iskra Research and Production Complex, which is on the list of strategic enterprises in Ukraine, will again supply the United States with unnamed radar equipment. This was reported by the “Defense Industrial Courier” news agency with reference to the statement of Dmitry Semyonov, chief designer of the surveillance radars of the NPK Iskra. “Just a few days ago, another contract was signed for the supply of our radar equipment to the United States,” he said. For the first time, the Pentagon bought Ukrainian radars of this modification back in 2008 for $ 6.4 million. According to open sources, the 36D6 type radar in various modifications has been supplied to the United States over the past 10 years., – the Ukrainian edition of “Dialogue” informs about it .

According to some reports, the new equipment can also be used in the framework of ongoing exercises, which will allow the US military to obtain objective data on the capabilities of air defense systems and develop a strategy for overcoming air defense means, moreover, the “enemy” in these exercises, obviously, will be Russia.

According to chief designer Dmitro Semenov of Iskra Company (part of the state-owned UkrOboronProm Group): “We have experience in selling advanced radar systems to the US side. Customers are satisfied and this is the reason why the next deal was signed.

However, the chief designer does not say how many 36D6M1-1 3D systems are in the new deal with the US. Earlier, the US Army Contract Command Center in Orlando, Florida received the first 3D 36D6M1-1 from Ukraine.

According to the manufacturer’s recommendation, the 36D6M1-1 3D is designed for use as part of an integrated air defense system (which can provide parameters for S-300 missiles).

The system is responsible for detecting small radar response area (RCS) targets flying at low and very low altitudes in active and passive interference environments. The advantage of the 36D6M1-1 3D radio is very high resistance to active and passive interference.

Targets are processed via raw data processing equipment that allows the drones to be eliminated in cluttered environments. Next to the digital microprocessor will allow accurate target detection with full 3 parameters. Radar can handle 120 targets at the same time, of which 30-60 targets are processed in automatic mode.

With a radar response area (RCS) of 0.1m2, the 36D6M1-1 3D can detect targets flying at an altitude of 50m, the detection range is not less than 27km; flying target at 100m altitude, detection range 42km; The target flies at an altitude of 1,000-6,000m, detecting range not less than 80km.

And with 1m2 RCS, 36D6M1-1 detects targets flying at an altitude of 50m, detection range 31km; flying targets at 100m altitude, detection range 46km; targets fly at an altitude of over 1,000m, detecting range 110-115km; Target flies at an altitude of 6,000-18,000m, detecting range from 147-175km.

So far, there are no official comments on this matter either from the United States or from Ukraine, which causes some concern about such actions by Ukraine, especially against the background of the first losses of the S-300 air defense system in 40 years of these complexes being in service with the world.
